PetCare + Philosophy
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We at the Animal Clinic of Los Alamos believe physical examinations are so critical to your pets overall health and happiness that we are willing to vaccinate your pets for free if you bring your pet to us for examinations every year. Just as in humans, early detection of health problems can save lives and improve the quality of life of your pet. The best way for us to monitor your pet's health is to examine him or her at least once a year.
What is the vaccine policy of The Animal Clinic of Los Alamos?
In the late 1990's, we adopted a vaccine policy that recommends vaccinating adult dogs and cats with core vaccines every three years or as required by law.
What are the core vaccines?
The core vaccines are rabies, canine distemper/parvo combination (D-H-P-P), and feline distemper (FVR-C-P)
Will this protect my pet against these diseases?
We believe that this vaccine policy not only fully protects your pets from these diseases but is safer for your pets since there is less chance for vaccine reactions. Please remember that, while it is rare, not all pets respond well to vaccines. For this reason, there are times when we avoid vaccinating your pet. Some examples include pets that are sick or stressed, pregnant pets, and pets that are in heat.
Are you sure my pet will be protected?
Current research has supported the use of vaccines every three years. However, the main reason we adopted this policy is that in more than 75 years of veterinary experience around the bayous of Louisiana, the mountains of Appalachia and the areas around Los Alamos, we only saw these major diseases in pets that were not vaccinated when they were young.
Is there any way to measure if my pet is protected?
There are tests that measure the level of antibodies in your pet's blood. These levels can give us an indication of the level of protection your pet currently has.
What about other vaccines?
Vaccines for diseases such as feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus or Bordetella and lyme disease in dogs are given as needed, depending on your pet's risk of exposure to the disease.
The Program
We are offering this free vaccination program for the lifetime of your adult cat or dog for just a $35.00 enrollment fee. And for many pets this enrollment fee will be waived. Too good to be true? See below for details.
What is included?
For dogs- it's the Rabies and D-H-P-P vaccines. For cats- it's the Rabies and FVR-C-P vaccines.
What is the catch?
To qualify, your pet must simply have its yearly physical exam at the Animal Clinic of Los Alamos. These exams are similar to the preventive physicals we humans have with our physicians and are different from exams for sick or injured pets.
When will the enrollment fee be waived?
+ If your pet has received yearly physical exams at our clinic for the last two years.
+ If your pet received its puppy or kitten vaccination series at our clinic.
+ If your dog is over 8 years of age.
+ If your cat is over 12 years of age.
Please pick up or copy/download an enrollment form, fill it out and turn it in to one of our staff members at the Animal Clinic of Los Alamos.
What if I am not ready for a commitment?
You're still welcome to get vaccines only and not register for the PetCare Plus program. Our three year rabies vaccine and our dog or cat distemper vaccine are competitively priced.
